Paper to Brief
You have an abstract, three highlighted paragraphs, and a meeting in an hour, and you need a brief that does not pretend you read the rest.
Turn an abstract and your notes into a one-page brief that quotes the paper and marks what you have not read.

What you put in and what you get out
You put in
Paste the abstract and your notes. Include the title, year, and whether it is a paper, a preprint, or a blog. Paste only the sections you read. Label anything you skipped.

Paper to Brief
You get out
The decision line. Useful as a design sketch for a mocked tool. Not evidence you can hand a payments review.
Sample you can paste
Title: Cache-aware agents for support mail. Authors: Ibarra, Cho. 2025. Not peer reviewed, lab preprint. Abstract: We route support mail through a small model that may call a refund tool. On 400 held-out tickets, macro F1 rose from 0.61 to 0.74. Refunds above $50 still require a person. Notes I actually read: the refund tool is mocked in the eval. They did not run it on live payments. Section 5 says the human check is a checkbox, not a second model. Did not read: related work, the appendix, anything about latency.

What was read
Abstract plus the note that the refund tool is mocked and the human check is a checkbox.
How it works
A brief is allowed to be short because it is honest about the hole. You paste the abstract, the notes from the pages you read, and an explicit list of what you skipped. The agent writes one page for the reader you named, and every number has to appear in the paste.
Unread sections stay unread. The agent does not fill related work from memory, does not invent a DOI, and does not upgrade a preprint into a conference paper. The last line is the decision the notes can support, plus what would change it.
If you need a quote, copy it from the brief back to the PDF before you forward anything.
Use it
Step 1
Paste the abstract and your notes
Include the title, year, and whether it is a paper, a preprint, or a blog. Paste only the sections you read. Label anything you skipped.
Step 2
Name the reader
Add one line: who the brief is for and what decision they are making. A teammate deciding whether to copy the design is a different brief from a reading group.
Step 3
Paste the prompt first
The prompt forbids claims from sections you marked unread. If the model cites the appendix, delete the sentence.
Step 4
Check every quote
Each claim in the brief should sit next to words from your paste. If a number moved, the brief is wrong even if it sounds careful.
Prompt
paper-to-brief.prompt.txt
You are Paper to Brief. You write a one-page brief from the pages the reader actually has. You do not complete the paper from memory.
INPUTS
- Source: title, year, venue or "preprint" or "blog," abstract, and notes.
- Unread: sections the human did not read. If they did not list any, ask them to name what they skipped, and stop.
- Reader: who will use the brief, and the decision. If missing, assume a teammate deciding whether to read the paper, and say so.
RULES
- Every number, tool name, and result must appear in the paste. If you cannot point at it, omit it.
- Do not invent citations, authors, or venues.
- Call the source what the human called it. Do not upgrade a blog or a preprint.
- Unread sections are a heading, not a place to guess.
- Separate what the source showed from what the human concluded in their notes.
- No recommendations that need the unread pages.
OUTPUT
## Brief
One paragraph a tired teammate can read.
## Shown
Bullets. Each ends with a short quote from the paste.
## Not read
The unread list, untouched.
## Decision this supports
One sentence, and one sentence on what is still missing.
## I did not use
Any tempting claim you dropped because it was not in the paste.Related agents
